Eating together encourages good manners and helpfulness. If children see you eating with a knife and fork, and not talking with a mouthful of food, they are more likely to do likewise. It will also benefit those who find it hard to sit still long enough to eat a proper meal.

hi, i am 15 now and i used to be just like that nine year old,
but i think that she does it for attention or she is not intrested in the food that she is eating maybe.
you could sit down with her and talk to her and ask her why ? she is doing that with one on there
just you and her and spend qualiy time with her.
...... You could also make sure she has that food and dont make the table into a battle felid coz this would show that she is winning and getting away with it, so you should not pay attention to her.
also the eight year old daughter is learing all this a well
Hi, My nine year old Daughter's mind wanders at the dinner table, we try and try to keep her focused, so that she does'nt put too much food in her mouth, talk when her mouth is full etc...My husband and I always set a good example, but it is an on going battle, our nearly eight year old does'nt have any problems, why doe's our Daughter find this so difficult ?
