'Leave Fern alone!'

Fern Britton, weight loss, gossip

June reckons everyone should give Fern Britton a break - do you agree?

I've always liked Fern because she's so down to earth and I love the way her and Phil crack up laughing all the time on GMTV.

I sympathise with her over the way people have criticised her for having a gastric band fitted.

She said in the paper that she didn't admit it at first because she didn't want people to copy her - which kind of makes sense. We should all be able to make our own minds up though, shouldn't we? But whatever way she lost weight she looks fantastic.

And even though she did 'cheat' as some people have called it she leads a much healthier lifestyle now. Good on you Fern, that's what I say.

i think fern has been given a hard time over nothing! surely she has a right to do whatever she likes with her body? if in the beginning she did try to diet the other way, and then she decided it wasn't for her, then it should be up to fern whatever she decides to do! it's no one else's buisness. i like fern and respect her very much. she's been through a lot in her lifetime, and i can relate to her. and it's lovely in the morning to see her smiling face and joking with philip schofield. they make a great team together and always brighten my day!!

I agree with a allen in the fact that Fern was able to achieve the results because she could pay. My 23 year old daughter has been waiting for 3 years now for this treatment on the NHS She has had to attend dietitians, clinics, use perscribed diet drugs and also has undergone hypnotherapy sessions. All this to to PROVE there is no other way to loose the wieght. The GP addmits she is a perfect candidate and I can vouch for her really trying EVERYTHING. But still sh's waiting for the consultants appointment. She is young and missing out on so much and I could cry watching her struggle. The ironic thing is she was always so active as a child and this rapid weight gain has only happened in the last few years with no obvious reason why. I would love for her to have a band fitted TOMORROW and If I had the money Fern has we would be straight to the clinic and forget the NHS. Any clinic out there who want to do a freebie?????????????

I love Fern she is very down to earth and funny. Does it really matter if she has had a Gastric Band. I cant understand what the fuss is the about. Just because she is a well known celebrity - it does not give the Media the right to shout at the top of their moral high ground about how she deceived the public. She hasn't decieved anyone - she just didnt tell everyone about her private affiars. She is perfectly entitled to do as she pleases. At least she paid for it herself and did not gorge herself silly and then expect the tax payer to foot the bill or try and make money from a phoney workout dvd.

I feel absolutely gutted that fern has had gastric band to lose weight. She led me and others to believe thru interviews, magazines and tv that she lost this weight thru excercise and the 'ryvita bikini diet'. I thought it was brill and if fern could do it then so could i but now i have lost all faith in her and others who have gastric band surgery when most of us working class people with kids and normal jobs cant afford this type of thing. why cant people be honest and admit what they had done and that they have also changed their lifestyle instead of giving us false hope!!!

Of course it's not "cheating" anymore than anyone who has plastic surgery for cosmetic reasons! If it works for her and makes her fitter and healthier, how wrong can it be?

We live in a size-iest world, don't we? So many people seem to look down their noses at someone just because they're overweight. Look at how Jodi was treated on I'll Do Anything? Cameron McIntosh ( is that how you spell it?) was reported in the press as saying she was too big to be Nancy. What difference should her size make? It's her voice and her acting that matters. Imagine how she felt listening to him say at the finals 'Jessie is Nancy.' Well, he didn't get his way did he?

I don't feel that having a gastric band or a gastric bypass is 'cheating'. Is it 'cheating' when an alcoholic has treatment? or someone uses help to quit smoking? Even cosmetic surgery isn't routinely referred to as 'cheating', so why should this be?
