Maternity care10 months agoHi All, My friend has jus given birth to a lovely little lad. She had the baby in hospital - it all went well but what got me was the stories she tells about the after care! It's terrible!!!!! she's recieved hardly any support or advice about caring for her new born and she's left ton her own most of the time. I feel so sorry for her. I had a home births so didn't have the same problem but has anyone else had bad/good maternity care experiences? Thanks Mand

Re: Maternity care10 months agoI'm pleased to say, that all 4 times, at the same hospital, I had excellent care indeed. I guess I was one of the lucky ones. |

Re: Maternity care10 months agoI had a good experience too - okay I rarely saw the same midwife twice but people have different ideas on what to expect - pregnancy isn't an illness you have to get on with it. I spent two nights in hospital and when I asked for help I got it. There were lots of women on my ward who moaned the whole time - expecting room service! Once your baby is born its your responsibility to look after it |

Re: Maternity care10 months agoWhen i gave birth to my 1st daughter i had obstetric cholestasis which in its self caused problems not to mention numerous infections and i was anemic. During my pregnancy the care was fantastic and because one of my team midwifes lived so close she was always asking my mum how i was getting on. Once i had given birth i lost almost 1 and a half litres of blood and the hospital never thought about a blood transfusion till after i started getting really ill. I had an infection which they had to treat with really fearce anti-biotics plus the blood transfusion. i was checked on every 15 mins while getting the transfusion, i was given 4 bags of blood and i was apparently grey! my face was past the white stage lol. The second time everything was fone except the fact that the midwives never cleaned the blood off the floor after i gave birth to my 10lb 1oz baby, there were drips and splashes of blood all over the floor, they never even helped me get a shower! they left that to my husband while he was looking after the baby. i was left sitting in my own blood for about 3 hours before someone came to change the covers. I want to have a home birth next time but ive been told because of the sheer size of my babies id need a c section as i had trouble squeezing my last one out plus all the trouble ive had during both pregnanceys'. All in all it wouldnt put me off having cildren but its as fast as i can get in and out now cause i dont like the hospitals. |
