I suffer from depression on and off and my doctor has prescribed me prozac before now.

this week i've reead that it doesnt work for most people and actually other things work just as well.

does anyone think its worked for them or have they tried anything else?

I take a tablet called Paroxetine and find them invaluable to me personally and I feel I can lead a normal life. I have not taken anti depressant for such a long period as just now. I can wake in the morning and be glad I am alive.

Me too...it is a shame it's such a taboo subject really...I have said to a few people that I take prozac, and sometimes I get shocked looks of horror!...It works for me...I have tried other anti-depressants that did not work very well...Another point to make is that my Dad took prozac a long time ago and he felt mad and violent on them...that was because he needed Lithium as he has Mania...so they work as long as you do not have something more serious than depression (like Mania, scizoprenia)....Good luck to all those who are brave enough to admit that life is tough and help can be asked for x

hi i am so sorry to hear that you are depressed.......but i have tried tablets from the doctor etc...and have never worked for me.... but if you have mild depression please try St.Johns Wort....very good keep me stable would always take them....Have to say it is not a quick result ..took about a month to kick in but now keep me steady...sad really but this is the life we live in ...take care..

What do you use as an alternative to help you cope with your depression ?...I know someone who took st.johns wort for a while....a more natural alternative to the chemicals like prozac etc...There are things you can do to help mild depression like walking in the fresh air, or using those sun light boxes for that seasonal disorder....but in my case...I had a lot of trauma...and there was no alternative other than to take the tablets and to work at "taking things a day at a time"...My Mum had suddenly died and I gave birth two weeks later and it was a traumatic and badly handled labour.

life is fast and stressful and can be traumatic....but I would rather be taking something to help me....than to have a meltdown in later years....theres no prizes in life for struggling unnecessarily....good luck & happiness to you   x

Hello, I too have depression and I take Citalopram and they are really good and work really well for me. I am so much happier and more positive and smile and laugh again. Things are good for me at the moment. Also, I joined a support group called www.dailystrength.co.uk which is very helpful. Give it a try,
