Gynaecology Visit

Hi Everyone.

I am 36 years old, female and single, living with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus, with an indwelling catheter for bladder issues. I am also still a virgin, but am having major menstrual issues... heavy bleeding and clotting

I have to go and see a gynaecologist on the 15th of January, I am petrified as I've never been before, nor been examined internally especially by a man, as this person is/will be. Do you think I'll have to be?

I feel so naive and embarrassed writing this, but hope someonce can help...

 Take care.

Janet, poor you. It must be terrible to be suffering as you have been.

I know how you feel about internal examinations - I have 3 children and I didn't dread the pains of labour as much as I did the internal exam they give you during it! I also dread smear tests with a vengeance also and I'm sure we're not the only ones.

Unfortunately, this is something we all have to go through at some point - I'm sure you know that. Why don't you make enquiries as to whether you can have a female doctor examine you? A friend to go with you for support is a help, I find. But even if you have a male doctor, there will be a female in the room with you, It's something they always do for personal exams like that. Try to relax, I know that sounds glib but it does help.

I hope I've helped and that they can help you. You'll have to let me know how you get on and if they can help with your problems.

Hi Nina.

Thankyou so much for your lovely message, you have helped me more than you realise.

I have asked a female friend to go with me, as sadly I lost my own Mum almost 4 years ago (April), and she is the closest person I have to that.

I will keep in touch with you.

 Thanks again for your support.

 Take care.

Hi Nina.

As you asked me to let you know about "the visit", I thought I would... I went yesterday, and was examined internally, he hurt me and wasn't pleased that I couldn't get in the position he needed me to be in, he has advised me to have a coil fitted, which he tried to do yesterday, but couldn't, so I've to go in for the day on the 13th of Feb, and have a general anaesthetic, with pre-op and ultra sound the week before, really scared.

 Take care.

Hi Yvonne.

I did take a female friend with me for support when I went, but the consultant said because it was for such personal issues he wouldn't let her in with me.

 Take care.

i cant see what the problem was with you wanting to take in your friend . after all you wanted her there for support . i would insist if i were you .

have you thought about going to a family planning clinic and having it fitted by a woman?
