I love questions like this! What I did when my girls were little (they are now 9, 5 and 4 years old) was to boil or steam a load of vegetables and then blend them (you blend them really smooth for very little babies and not so smooth for bigger babies who are used to eating).

What I'd do then was freeze them in ice cube trays and once frozen, bag them up into my freezer. All you have to do then is take out a couple of cubes and pop them into the microwave in a bowl until at the right temperature (cos every baby is different :o)

I introduced my girls to just about every vegetable I could find on this - courgettes, sweet potatoes, as well as the usual carrots, brocolli and peas etc etc. You can also do cooked meat like fish or chicken - when we had this for dinner, I would put some aside while cooking and not add anything to it once cooked, but blend it for the baby too and mix it with veg. I didn't freeze meat or fish as I wasn't sure if I could and I wouldn't want to advise you wrongly - anyone else know?

I'm not a new age mum who detests jar foods - they are very handy and I always kept a few in the cupboard if we were going out or if I just couldn't be bothered :o)

But this way you know exactly what you're giving your baby and it's cheap. It sounds time consuming but I got into the habit of doing it once a week and got my hubby to peel and chop the veg for me so I was left with the fun bit of blending it all *lol*

Hope this helps you anyway - let me know how you get on.

Keep Smiling and Eat Well :o)

I've got an 8 month old son and cook all his dinners my self.  I like the idea of him having "proper food"!  some ideas are casseroles, risotto, roast dinners, spaghetti bologneise.  I just cook extra of what we have at meal times and put the extra in a food prosesser and wizz it up.  I also do pots of fruit for lunch times anything from apple and kiwi to peaches and pears.  You can buy 4 bowls with lids from tesco for about £2 which i bought loads of so i can cook in bulk and freeze all his dinners then they only take a couple of minutes in the microwave when you need them.

Good luck!

Hi, I would try and hold off for a month, just 4 weeks until he is 4 months old before introducing solids...babies have tiny insides...I would keep giving him his milk (on demand) even if it is every two hours...you can't overfeed with milk...but you can overfeed with food, children who are weaned too early, can become overweight, talk to your health visitor before weaning your baby, hope that helps,
