ovarian cancer

my sister has had symptoms of irratible bowel syndrome (IBS) for 4-5 years and went to G.P repeatedly, being told it was probably an infection and advised to hand in a sample of urine for testing. The sample always came back clear and no further advise was offered and no follow up treatment was given.my sister just learned to live with her condition and adjusted herself to having a life which meant visiting the loo every 10-15 mins!! By now her body shape had changed- she alwys looked pregnant and at times she suffered from abdominal pain during the time of her period , but this was just put down as normal period pain and her increased appetite. A month ago she was admitted to hospital with suspected appendisitis -----

IT TURNED OUT SHE HAD OVARIAN CYSTS WHICH HAD NOW RUPTURED AND WAS THEN DIAGNOSED WITH OVARIAN CANCER

I am appauled at the attitude of her G.P who shows no sign of responsibility towards her part in not paying more attention to her patients symptoms ,and states she did all she she could have! Please note that my sister did not complain and always looked for her GP to direct her towards a solution.WHY WAS SHE NEVER REFERRED TO A SPECIALIST UNTIL I HAD TO STEP IN AND ASK THE GP TO TAKE HER HISTORY INTO ACCOUNT??Even then the GP first put her onto medication and advised not to drink to many fluids-

the latest comments the Gp made in a recent visit were -it is a shame about your sister-

I have requested a copy of my sisters medical notes as I am not at satisfied with the doctors efforts

or is this usual and should I just ;et it go

ps my sister has learnig difficulties

Hi, firstly i would like to say i'm so sorry about your sister.

YOU should NOT let it go!! It makes me so mad when you hear of 'horrible' GP's.Some just don't seem to care anymore. They are too quick to get you out of the door before they have even listened to you.

You are your sister's voice. Fight to get the answers hun.

You take care and i wish you and your sister the best of luck xx
