Potty Training Advise Needed Please!!!

Hi, my daughter has just turned 3.  She does show signs of needing a wee and tell you she needs a poo. But i can not get her on the potty or toilet for love or money!!! lol

I have tried a chart, sweets, peppa pig knickers!!!  Today i just left her with nothing on but knickers thinking that might do  the trick and she still wouldnt. Brought her some lovely pink bunny training pants. No joy!

She dont get upset about the potty or toilet and i do make sure i dont upset her.  But it's driving me mad!!!  I have 4 other children and thought this time round would be a piece of cake...........NOT lol!!!

Any advice or suggestions would be great!

Hello,

I hate potty training - it's the only bit of parenthood I dread! I have 3 daughters and the older two were over 3 when they cracked it but my youngest was dry, day and night, by 2 and a half. Every child is different.

Have you seen the article on potty training on this website? I think it's under the Family heading and then under Toddlers. I know you've got 4 kids and have probably tried everything (everything I'd do anyway!), but there might be something there that helps.

Keep Smiling and Eat Well :o)

potty training really isnt easy is it? have you tried just letting her run round with nothing on the bottom half till she cracked the getting on the potty bit, thats what i did with my eldest who is now 2 and a half, then i introduced her to knickers. each time she weed on the floor i told her it was bad and sat her on the potty. The bit that i dreaded was the going out in the town with just knickers on! but it was a piece of cake i just hope my youngest is the same! ill be starting her potty training soon too althought she is only 10 and a half months old.  I believe as soon as they are walking they should be introduced to the potty and sat on it once every sort of 15 mins or monitor how often they go pee or poo then you can have a rough idea when they will need to go and sit them on the potty. The earlier you start, the easier it should be to get them on it and trained at a fairly young age.  My eldest isnt trained through the night yet though she does show signs of wanting to get up for a pee through the night. My youngest has just started walking so once her 1st birthday is here ill start her on the potty.  MY eldest was trained through the day when she was only 15 months old.

Any way sorry for blabbin on lol

it might take a while but your little boy will eventually learn. you have to be consistant, if you chop and change your wee boy will get confused and wont know what to do. your doing a good job you just have to keep it up not matter how hard it is for you! as soon as you give in, kids take advantage! lol my youngest is 1 on the 23rd of this month and i am going to try her on the potty just so that she learns that potty's are for sitting on not for playing with. I can only hope that she is as easy to train as her big sister! Good luck sarah and keep me updated! xXx

NO,...I wouldn't train them before they are ready, under two years old is really too young...it's soooo what our Grandparents did...they should be exploring thier surroundings not sitting on a potty, research shows a child under two does'nt understand it's bowel movements, it is just pure luck, or force...I don't think having a dry 15 month old should be applauded, they can revert backwards at a later date when they realise it annoys you, that happenend to a few people I know, and they ended up with 6 yr old bed wetters.

They are only babies once, try them over age two, If they show signs of wanting to use the potty, (my son wasn't ready until 3 and half)boys are lazier than girls at it, but once it's clicked boys don't mess you about wanting to look at peoples bathrooms, wereas nosey girls do !. The best time is also summer when it's warmer to walk about the house in less clothes, it's not the best part of motherhood, good luck

please Alfie...don't tell your baby he is bad for weeing on the floor, I was upset reading that, please put his nappy on, give him a cuddle, they don't have control over thier bowels at that age, put the potty away for a year  XXXXXX

what a load of rubbish! there is nothing wrong with a dry 15 month old! my daughter knows her bowl movements she knew at 14 months old when she nedded a pee or a poo as she would bring me her changing bag just before she did it! just because some kids are ready early and some are a little later doesnt make any of it wrong and how dare you emply that i am bad for potty training my daughter that early!!!! you have made me so angry! my daughter is 2 1/2 and still in nappies at night so she is not completely dry but if they are ready you will know! and your shild will let you know when they are ready! there is no set time or age limit! if your child is ready then by all means dont hold them back! but if your child is not ready then dont force them! my daughter trained so quickly because she was ready not because i forced her to and how dare you say that about me and question my methods! i am a good mother and i wont hae any1 tell me otherwise! ive had enough from my interfeering mother in law and i wont take it from a complete stranger!

Theres nothing wrong with giving it ago. My son was 28 months when i tried him and he got it straight away. At the time my daughter was 13months and tried to copy her big brother in everything. To my surprise she decided she wanted to use the potty. So i encouraged her. I guess i was exstreamly lucky, both mine were trained within about two weeks. And my little girl was dry through the night not that long after, way before my son. They are now 8 and 7 and i never had any problems afterward in reguard to it being to early.

just like to say good on you nykita!

i have a 7month old daughter and i am already introducing her to the potty. i let her play with it sit on it and get used to it (its clean obviously and always supervised) as trying to force an older child onto a potty is a lot harder. all my friends have struggled with potty training but none of them introduced them to it at a younger age im not saying that she will potty train earlier only time will tell but at 7 months she sits on it and does her business (when the timings right) i show her what she has done and give her lots of cuddles and kisses and claps and she already loves it so can only presume she already acknowledges it to be a positive experience and when she is ready to go to the potty herself and understands her own bowel movements she wont be scared of sitting on it. i know this doesnt help you very much but i also wanted to say have you taken your daughter to the toilet with you or her siblings? children learn alot from watching others and if she see's other children using the potty or toilet it will encourage her and also role play with her dolls is another great way of showing her and getting her used to the idea. overall though i wouldnt worry too much like everyone says children will potty train when they are ready and it is dependant on every child when that is.

No-one said you were a bad mother Nykita!,I said that "Alfie" should'nt tell her son he is bad when he makes mistakes...You(Nykita) just wrote that you would be putting your younger Daughter on the potty every 15 mins or so, I disagree with that (that's my opinion!)...Maybe something else is making you angry?...i'm certainly not interfering in your life either...you have the problem if someone disagrees with one of your points.....and that makes you angry...on a chat forum...that's what they are for...to share differences of opinions!... I have three children and lots of life experience...I enjoy peoples different opinions...it's what makes us unique...it's what we call a democracy.

Also...there should be the emphasis on the praise for the child...not praise for the parent on how young they are potty trained at...I really just feel that a baby should be exploring his/her surroundings...and that society is in a rush to get children grown up too fast.
