Help needed to slim

 HI

I need help to slim, About five years ago I lost 2 stone with Weight Watchers but unfortunately I had an hysterectomy 3 years ago and started to put it back on, I was then put on HRT which did not help, I also have depression problems and I am a carer for my husband who is bipolar.

I really do not feel healthy at my present weight of 12 stone 9 pounds so any tips or recipes would help.

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles.

What I would do first is see your doctor about the depression - s/he might be able to prescribe you with something or refer you to a counsellor. Or are you having some kind of treatment for this already?

As for your weight issues, there are some really good articles on diets on this website, I use them for ideas on what to eat sometimes. But the important thing is to change your eating and lifestyle habits for good, not just to lose weight. You could lose weight on a diet but you will probably put the weight back on after you go back to your normal habits.

Another thing is exercise - it's good for you and it makes you feel happier. I can't remember the name of the hormone, but this happy hormone is released into your system when you exercise, instantly making you feel better.

Hope this helps. Let us know how you get on X

Keep Smiling and Eat Well :o)

hi i have just joined the site and having been a person who has always struggled with weight feel there is definitely a strong correlation with stress and achieving weight loss. nina is right saying exercise etc.... the trouble is that when you have a lot on in your life and not feeling great, it can become a real vicious circle getting motivated to exercise. I first got started doing a health detox. there is a very reasonable priced place called spa samui in koh samui where you can do a total cleanse and rejuvenate yourself. people travel there from all over the world. I found as a mum of four children with a husband who has his own business which is in the growing stage,,,,i have to take responsibility for my own heath and happiness. I also tend to suffer from depression which really first started after the birth of my second son. have had treatment overy the years but yes the endorphins from exercise and this can be as simple as walking. taking an hour for yourself and invest in a heart monitor so as you build up your fitness you keep aiming to get your heart rate above 120 so you can burn those extra calories. Cant say i still really love exercise and i definitely get a lot of comfort from eating sugary foods, but at least now am aware of it and now at almost 45 years of age i know from losing weight numerous times and putting it back on again that it is more important for me to maintain balance in my life and maintain my weight rather than going up and down....you definitely have a lot on your plate though. i have a niece who suffers from bipolar and i know how difficult and stressful this can be for those in the family. take care and keep in touch

Hi Nina
Thank you for replying, I am already having treatment for my depression but it is hard as my problems are caused by my husbands problems with his mental health, I am finding it hard to cope with at the moment. I have just had the all clear from the hospital after a breast cancer scare. I eat mostly veggie food but tend to go overboard if stressed. I do tend to walk everywhere and try to keep busy as this helps. I go to a carers forum in Derby once a month and find this helps.

HI EVERYONE
I'M REALLY NEW TO COMPUTERS BUT AN OLD HAND AT DIETS. STILL OVERWEIGHT THOUGH. WISH I COULD GIVE YOU ALL THE MAGIC CURE, BUT I'M STILL LOOKING FOR IT. IF ANYONE CAN HELP ME ALONG THE WAY PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I KNOW I FIND IT HARD TO STICK TO A DIET, BUT IF I HAD SOMEONE TO TALK TO MAYBE IT WOULD MAKE A DIFFERENCE. I KNOW I NEED TO EXERCISE MORE AND EAT LESS, BUT IT DOESN'T SINK IN. BUT NINA YOU WERE RIGHT ABOUT THE EXERCISE AND THE FEEL GOOD HORMONE CALLED SERATONIN BUT I JUST DON'T FEEL MOTIVATED TO CHANGE.

as nina said its about changing lifestyle habit which is hard i lost weight on the weight watchers diet but have you noticed all they tell you is cut down on portion sizes and eat there ready meals or follow the meals they have in the booklets they give you i recommend going out to a shop like wh smiths getting a healthy eating book and cooking for the whole family the meals you would eat i have tried this myself the young children dont really like it but it gets them on to a healthy lifestyle instead of this i have to diet to be thin culture cant we just be happy with eating healthily no matter of our size im a 14/16 at the moment have only just started eating smaller portions so i will keep you posted hope this helps
