Should SATs be scrapped?

Although all the 11-year-olds have finally got their results today, lots of people are calling for SATs to be abandoned, because they're not good for pupils.

Has anyone had any experience of this? Should SATs be done away with? They've been around since 1995, so they're not new.

I think they were a ridiculous idea in the first place. Kids that young should not feel pressurised to sit tests in that formal way. I believe it's a way of seeing how well the school is doing (please correct me if I'm wrong), but why put the kids under pressure. There are some parents at my girls' school that worry too much about SATs and their kids in turn feel the pressure.

I just believe there are other ways to monitor kids progress and when they're that young, it should be done throughout the school years constantly, not just through a test

Don't sweat the small stuff. It will make you stinky.
