how do you stop teen gangs

the goverment has just put out a new guide that is aimed at parents and will apparently give advice and help. Seriously is that going to make ant differnce? I can't believe parents dont know what the signs of their kids going off the rails are.
my kids arent old enough yet, but i know i'd be able to spot the signs and would like to think i could stop them. shouldnt the goverment be doing something more than writing a little internet guide?

I don't think punishments are severe enough for anything - the UK is far too soft. Young people are sent to detention centres for a few months where they just hang around with their friends who also got sent down!

There's a prison in Texas, US where the prisoners have to wear pink boxer shorts and nothing else, they sleep in tents with no toilets etc, they have to do back breaking hard labour and have no TV, radio etc. When anyone complains, the warder just tells them not to come back if they don't like it! *lol*

I think ALL prisons should be like that. Human rights?! Don't make me laugh. As far as I'm concerned, anyone who has committed murder gives up their rights when they kill and we shouldn't be wasting money on making their lives more comfortable. LET the prisons be overcrowded and put the money saved into more worthwhile causes. I'm sorry, but why should I pay to make Jack the Ripper more comfortable? What about all his victims? And while I'm on the subject, I don't think paedophiles should get special treatment in prisons - put them in with everyone else. The punishments dished out by the other prisoners will be nothing compared to what they put their victims through.

But anyway, I'm going off the point here, sorry! Knife crime is terrible but I think the trouble started with the closure of youth centres - there just aren't enough cheap activities for kids out of school time anymore. We need good, cheap local clubs that kids can go to to keep them occupied and keep them off the streets or parks at night drinking cheap alcohol. I think a lot young crime starts from boredom and not having guidance.

I also think parents need to take responsibility for their kids. There are far too many people who become parents to claim more benefits or get a bigger council house. Oh and don't get me started on the cushy benefits system :o) They have their kids and just don't give them any guidance as to what's right and wrong. YES, being a parents is hard and YES it's hard telling your child they can't do something, but that's part of our roles as parents. No one said it would be easy!
