Ministry of Foodabout 1 year agoDid anyone watch this programme last night? Just wanted to say one thing - I can't BELIEVE the woman who has only ever fed her 5 year old daughter and 2 year old son takeaways. She said that both her and her partner were on benefits and money is tight but they are happy to spend about £70 every week on junk food! I'm sorry to sound harsh but even if she didn't have the faintest idea of how to cook - HOW much effort does it take to make fish fingers? Or beans on toast? Or sausage and mash? I didn't see the whole programme but I thought it was appalling how little some parents know. It's good that they want to improve themselves and they have all volunteered for this programme but then it makes me wonder just how many more parents there are out there like that? I'm not a saint, I do like Birds Eye and other easy meals to bung in the oven a few times a week when I'm too tired and I do let my girls have junk food sometimes (I work full time), but I do a lot of cooking from scratch and if I can manage, then so can these people who are home all day! Don't sweat the small stuff. It will make you stinky. |

Re: Ministry of Foodabout 1 year agoHi Nina I saw that too - chips and kebabs her poor kid was fed. I don't think there's any excuse for it. She was complaining she couldn't aford anything else, but vegetables aren't that expensive and how hard is it to open a can of tuna to put ona baked potato? It made me so cross... |

Re: Ministry of Foodabout 1 year agoIt's appalling how little some people know about nutrition - I'm right behind Jamie Oliver on this one (if only I really WAS right behind him... or right in front *lol*). There's a mum at school who has 6 kids and says they are ALL fussy eaters. She says they will only eat crisps, biscuits and cakes. But in the same breath she says she won't let them have chocolate because it melts and is too messy! You need a license to drive, to fish and to hunt but anyone can be a parent without the faintest idea of how to look after kids. And the cycle is always repeated - these people who don't know how to cook were obviously never cooked for or never taught by their parents. Don't sweat the small stuff. It will make you stinky. |
