my daughter has always been a fast developer ie walking at 10 1/2 month and saying a few words now and latly in the past month she has been pulling her nappy down and sitting on the potty that my niece uses i just wondered if anyone has tried there child so young or does anyone have any advice for my thanks

Hi Mandy, if Amber is showing signs of wanting to sit on a potty, then you shouldn't stop her. It is very early for her to be trained but I know people whose children started this young.

The main thing is not to pressurise her into being potty trained or let it stress you out. It could be that she just wants to copy your neice or it could well be that she recognises the urge to want to "go" and has made the connection between that and the potty.

I would buy her a potty or a training toilet seat (we had both when our girls were little - depending on whether they were upstairs or downstairs!) and leave her to it.

Hope this helps. By the way, my eldest two were nearly 3 when they were potty trained but my youngest wasn't quite 2 years old when she was dry day and night. Every child is different, even children within the same family.

Don't sweat the small stuff. It will make you stinky.

thanks nina

the main reason that i noticed she might be ready is that she pulls at her nappy and i sit her on the potty but she wont do anything then she poos as soon as i pull her nappy back up

shes seems to be coming on in leaps and bounds at the moment so i dont know weather it is just one more thing she is doing early on

Hi Mandy, I agree with Nina - if she's doing it, let her carry on.

You might find you still need to put a nappy on her during the night, as that's often the most difficult bit. We've got a book at home that teaches you how to potty train your child early, but I think it depends on each one's own personality. 

My 2-year-old knows exactly what to do, puts many of her dollies and toys on the potty and even tells us when she's done a No.2, but is showing no inclination to do it herself on the potty. We ask her, but she always says 'no'. We'll just let it happen naturally - every child does it eventually and some it do a lot earlier, some a lot later. I say go for it!
