Children with poor immune systems

Hi, i was hoping to hear from other parents with children who have a poor imune system.

My 3 year old daughter is currently having test done to see how well her imune system is functioning. She sufferes from reoccurring shingles, has no antibodies for chicken pox virus, no antibodies for tetnus, Hib, low antibodies for pneumococcal. We are awaiting more test results.

Is any other parent going through this any advice would be very helpful

Hiya Emma

I'm sorry, but I don't have any experience of this condition your daughter is being tested for. I just felt I had to post something to show there are people here you can talk to, even if we don't have any experience of what you need advice on!

You must be very worried, she is still very little. Have the test results come through yet? What did they say?

Keep us posted, we are interested

Hi Ems,

Very sorry to hear about that. Sadly I'm not in the same situation so I can't give you any advice, but I do hope the tests work out.

I know that hearing from someone else that's going through the same thing is what you're really looking for!

But for what it's worth, here is some info that might may be of interest to you:

http://www.patient.co.uk/showdoc/26739387/

(Details for Careline, a free UK helpline which gives you counselling and more importantly puts you in touch with other relevant agencies once you explain your situation. They're apparently good for long-term health-related stuff.)

Also, goodtoknow has quite a lot of articles on kids health, and also some on immune systems and how to boost the immune system:

http://www.goodtoknow.co.uk/Search2?q=immune+system&categories=&am p;search=

(Articles about the immune system in general, with stuff on how to boost the immune system)

http://www.goodtoknow.co.uk/health/kids-health/Chicken-pox

(Chicken pox in children)

http://www.goodtoknow.co.uk/health/kids-health/Earache

(Earache in children)

http://www.goodtoknow.co.uk/family/toddlers/Your-child...s-health

(Various things on health for toddlers)

And here are some more articles elsewhere that might be of help:

http://www.helium.com/items/340433-tips-for-dealing-with-sick-kids

(An article giving tips on how to deal with sick kids, encouraging them to do basic things like eat when they don't feel like it, but also giving tips on making sure the kids don't get too stressed about feeling ill and start taking it to heart. It's pretty lightweight and is more for if a child is having a one-off illness but might have some useful tips.)

http://www.kidsandnutrition.co.uk/top-tips-for-boosting-your-toddler-s -immune-system-through-diet.html

(A standard article on what sorts of foods boost your toddler's immunity system. I'm sure you know that stuff already, though.)

Anyway, I hope things work out soon. If you find any good agencies or support systems that have helped you, it would be lovely if you had time to post them here - to help any other mums in your position?

Good luck with the tests x

Hi thanks for the replys,

At the moment things are pretty much the same as last week, Aimee is currently suffering from thrush when is uncomfortable enough for an adult never mind a child. We are due in the clinic for some more immunisations today they are hoping that it may kick start her system but this is the 3 rd attempt so im losing hope.

It is nice that i can talk to others and vent abit of frustration.

Many thanks

Emma

If it's any help, eating lots of live yoghurt can help with thrush (you know, the stuff with the biocultures in). When I've had thrush I've also followed my friend's advice and inserted it internally - yes, it sounds grim, but yoghurt knickers really do work - and that cleared up the symptoms in a matter of days.

The waiting must be a real strain. Thanks for letting us know how things are going.

Yes, I also recommend yoghurt knickers! Natural live yoghurt on the area, works a treat. My eldest used to get thrush when she was little and it worked wonders.

Thanks for keeping us up to date
