HELP PLEASE

SOMEONE HELP PLEASE, my son is 2 and a half and was straight into a routine by himself at 2 and a half months old, he went to bed by 9 every nite and stayed asleep till 8 the next morning, until he was 9 months old that is ........... he start vomiting, diariha the lot, it turn out to be just a viral infection but he was in hospital for 4 days and after that he just totally got out of his routine, he got back into a routine eventually but then at 13 months old he was back in hospital with another viral infection and that totally screwed up his routine AGAIN!! Now he's 2 and a half and its like he is getting day and night mixed up, if he went to bed at 8 or 9 at night he'd be back up by 12 at night and he'd be wide awake till round 6 or 7 in the morning, he's missing out on the lovely sunny mornings and i do wake him up as early as i can when he goes to bed so late but im so tired myself, everytime i get him into a routine he gets a cold or something and we're back to square one again, even tonight he went to bed at 8 but woke up 'full of beans' at half 12 so he's going to be up for hours now, and it doesnt work bringing him back up to bed because he just runs around the bedroom then and acts the maggot, i refuse to give him Dozol as i gave it to him when he was one and he got a viral infection and im convinced its from that, sorry this is soooooooooooo long but i need some advice as im so tired and run down i keep 'heaving' throughout the day and this cant be good for him 2, any advice would be greatly appreciated or if some1 is going through this 2 ...................... HELP ME!!!    xxx

Hello Kitten

You poor thing, I really feel for you. Sleep deprivation is one of the hardest things to cope with, especially when you're looking after a toddler all day. There are some good articles on getting your child to sleep on this website in the Family section, you should try reading those.

I know you're knackered, but pick a weekend or a time when you don't have to do much the next day and try to get him into a routine. When he wakes at night, leave the lights off, speak in whispers and say things like "Look, everyone's asleep, it's dark". Try not to bring him out of his bedroom and stay in the room until he falls asleep again, if he must.

A routine before bed is also important - e.g. tea, bath, story in bed, then lights off. You could also try blackout blinds and curtains because the days are so long.

I hope this works for you, but keep coming on here to tell us about it.

Don't sweat the small stuff. It will make you stinky.

 Hi Nina,

When he wakes up i pretend to be asleep but he'll nudge me or just whisper to himself but i do keep him in the room but if its 2 hours later then i just get up with him, last night wasnt that bad, he went to bed at 11 at night and woke up at 5 in the morning but its better than him only going to bed at 6 in the morning haha, will keep you posted xx
