DVT killsabout 1 year agoive just read that thousands of people are dying in hsopital of DVT becase theyre not being checked properly. this is terrible. i always think of flying and blood clots but theyre more common when youre laying on a bed. surely every patient should get a pair of those socks that helps - it cant be that expensive You had me at 'hello!' |

Re: DVT kills12 months agoHi, i agree with every word you said, my daughter (shes 28) yr went for her routine smear test which came back abnormal so was referred to hospital and was sent for a scan which revealed a d.v.t. in her groin, the specialist could not stress enough how lucky she was and how life threating it was and told me i was very lucky i still had a daughter because the clot was massive!!!! to say i was worried is an understatement but more to the point my grandaughter who is only 5yr could be left without a mum !!!!. What made it worse was unbeknown to me she had been to the doctors and also mentioned at her smear that her leg kept swelling up and was sent away with water tablets and told to take more rest as she is an avid walker, at 2/3 miles a day, i can't repeat what i said to her G.P. but believe me if anything had happened to her i would have sued his arse off if only for her daughter. That all happened 3 months ago so she is not out of the woods yet and is having to inject herself in her tummy every day for at least another 3 months. As for the abnormality of her smear she was diagnosed as having cervical cancer and becuase of the d.v.t the cone biopsy she needed had to be delayed but only for 2 weeks which was successful and hopefully she won't need anymore treatment, but at the end of the day she spent 3 weeks in hospital for something that should have only needed 1 night stay, however it could have been a lot worse so we thank our lucky stars that she has lived to tell the tale. If there is a moral to this story it is that we should all have our smear tests every time we are invited for one and that if your not happy with your doctors diagnosis you are entitled to a second opinion and don't be afraid to ask for one because lets face it, its your life and your body and doctors can and do make mistakes they are only human like me and you. |

Re: DVT kills12 months agoGosh Mrs Mills, how awful. Thank God it was picked up in time. Blood clots can be silent killers. Really appalling that GP didn't investigate further when your daughter complained of a swollen leg. UNusual to have just one swollen leg isn;t it? If fluid retention surely it's general and not just in one leg? Your poor daughter has really been through it, hasn't she with the cervical cancer scare and this happening at the same time. Best of luck to her for a speedy recovery. |

Re: DVT kills12 months agothanks jules i just hope she doesn't try to do 2 much tho she has a 5yr old daughter and christmas is coming and i know what shes like, and shes so independant she won't ask for help.
