Milk-top pairs game craft

What you will need

  • 16 plastic milk bottle tops
  • Paper in various colours
  • Shape-cutter stamp
  • Glue stick
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Canvas or a piece of cardboard, for the base

goodtoknow mum, Natalie Wyatt, sent in this clever pairs game which she made with her son using milk bottle tops jazzed up with colourful paper shapes.

Natalie said: 'We had fun making this craft and it was really relaxing too. My son went on to make more intricate designs to use in his own game with friends. After we got tired of playing, we glued the milk bottle tops onto the canvas and hung it on his bedroom wall.'

This craft is easy enough for children, aged four and upwards, to make. Just follow Natalie's illustrated step-by-step instructions and make your own game of pairs.

Step 1

Milk bottle-top pairs game craft equipment...
Find a flat surface to work on and gather together all the craft materials you need to make a milk bottle-top pairs game.

Step 2

Paint or spray the canvas or card base and leave it to dry. Next use the shape cutter stamp to cut out colourful paper shapes and put them into a bowl.

Step 3

Decorate the inside of each milk bottle top using the paper shapes, plus strips of paper. You can also add to the designs using a pencil to draw on details.
Don't forget to make two of each design, so you can play 'pairs' at the end.

Step 4

How to play the milk bottle-top pairs game...
Arrange all of the milk bottle tops so the decorations are facing down, then take it in turns to turn two milk bottle tops over at a time, to find a pair. Once a pair is found, remove them from the canvas base until all of the milk bottle tops have been paired and won. The winner is the player with the most pairs.

Once you've finished playing the pairs game, you can glue the decorated milk bottle tops to the canvas and hang it on your wall for a colourful piece of art.
