I tried the Dairy Free Diet
I've never liked the taste of milk, cream or cheese but had no idea they could be making me ill until I visited my GP. I thought I had IBS because I was always so bloated after eating and had awful diarrhoea. But she ran a few tests and discovered I was actually lactose intolerant.
My new diet isn't radically different but it did take some getting used to. Soya milk takes a bit of getting used to and I don't think I'll ever like soya yogurts. I miss butter too, and have to eat lots of nuts and pulses to make sure I'm getting enough calcium. But on the plus side I feel well for the first time in years.

I've been on a dairy-free diet for two months now, since I found out that my baby Evie (aged eight months) is allergic to it. I'm still breast-feeding her so it's important that I don't pass dairy onto her through my breast milk. I was pretty worried about how I would manage without my favourite foods such as cheese, yogurts and milk chocolate, but I've been surprised to find it quite easy to go without these foods. I've learnt to make lots of new recipes with soya and pulses to make sure I get a balanced diet; and I've got used to dark chocolate. If ever I feel fed-up about it, I just remind myself that at least I can go back to eating dairy once I stop breast-feeding, where as Evie might never be able to have it. Another advantage is that I've definitely got my figure back since I cut out those dairy treats!
