I tried the High Fibre Diet

I tried the High Fibre Diet

I started suffering from constipation and bloating six months ago. It was horrible and very embarrassing, especially when I couldn't get into my clothes. My doctor said I needed to eat more fibre but I was worried it might make things worse.

Eventually, I decided it was worth a shot. But after seven days I almost gave up the high fibre diet because I was constantly passing wind and my stomach was huge - I looked about six months pregnant. I also hated the chewy brown rice and longed for white toast! I spoke to a friend who's a dietician and she thought it might be too extreme for me. She suggested I changed my diet slowly instead.

So over the next few weeks I gradually increased the amount of fibre I ate. I swapped wholemeal bread for 'Best of Both' and mixing white and brown rice together really helped. Now I have a high fibre diet that doesn't make me feel bloated and full of wind - and my stomach's much flatter.

I am on a very high fibre diet but still have constipation problems. I would eat All Bran with kiwi or other fruit as breakfast, another bowl of high fibre cereal for lunch and I snack on apricots and fruit. When it comes to dinner I've substituted white pasta with brown high fibre one, don't eat white bread, drink 3 litres of water a day. I even take 3 sachets a day of 13.8g of an oral solution which helps constipation problems but it's not a laxative. I do everything of the above but it's all in vain. I still have constipation. I have given up to have a normal life.
