10 smart foods: Steak & salmon
5. Steak
Best for Iron
Iron helps oxygen travel around the body in your blood, so if your level is low you feel tired and lacking in strength or motivation.
How much and how often?
14mg of iron a day. Ten bowls of spinach contain a full day's iron, but one small steak or portion of shepherd's pie is just as good!
Alternative
2-3 bowls of Special K cereal.
6. Salmon
Best for Vitamin D
We don't usually need to eat food for vitamin D as it's made from the action of the sun on the skin. It's needed to help the body absorb calcium. If you rarely go outside, cover your body or have dark skin, you might need extra vitamin D.
How much and how often?
150g salmon three times a week.
Alternatives
1 egg, fortified margarine.
