Measuring your baby's growth

When you see your midwife for an antenatal appointment, one of the things she does is check your baby's growth. She'll ask you to lie down on a couch and she'll place her hand on the top of your womb, also known as the fundus.
She might use a tape measure to check the distance from the top of your bump to your pubic bone or estimate the length using her hands to make sure its about the right size. She can also feel if there's too much or too little water around your baby. Scans can be used if there's a particular concern about a baby's growth, but they aren't always accurate.

i had my 34wk check up and the midwife found i only measured 29cm instead of the usual 34cm,i now have to go for a scan next week to check babys growth progress.i am very concerned about this and am finding it hard to sleep as im worrying alot.the midwife did her best to reassure me that she could be curled up but that was about it.could you please give me and my wonderful husband some advice on what might happen if she is only 29 instead of 34cm,is she still ok to be born on her due date if she is small, and things like that.all my other children were over 7lb.many thanks danielle
