Discharges in pregnancy
Discharges are common during pregnancy due to hormonal changes. As long as it doesn't smell bad, is not itchy or discoloured, it's quite normal. But if any of the above applies, it could be a sign of infection. Your midwife can take a swab to check for infection. This looks like a cotton bud, which is gently dabbed into the vagina, then sent away to the laboratory.
Some infections, such as Group B Streptococcus, can cause premature labour, so don't ignore unusual symptoms. Many women get a fungal infection, thrush, in pregnancy, which can be white and curdy and 'yeasty' smelling. You and your partner will need to be treated for this.
