1. Eat a healthy, varied diet with plenty of fruit, vegetables, protein, wholegrain cereals and calcium.
2. Cut down on alcohol to no more than 1 or 2 units (a 175ml glass of wine is around 2 units) once or twice a week.
3. Quit smoking and illegal drugs (your partner, too, as smoking can lower his sperm count).
4. Timing is key to getting pregnant, so get to know your menstrual cycle, observing the changes in your body, to help you identify your most fertile time.
5. Get your weight in check.
6. Take regular exercise.
7. Limit your caffeine intake to just one cup a day.
8. Use an ovulation prediction kit or chart your basal body temperature to pinpoint ovulation.
9. Have sex, a lot!
10. Try not to obsess about it.
