Fathers dealing with the birth

It's not for us to dictate what couples do, but fathers can be traumatised by childbirth. Many dads write to us saying how difficult they found it. Often, if he's really wanted children and the birth has been complicated, he's overwhelmed by guilt.
Some men don't seem able to admit they hate blood or are squeamish. Maybe he could be there early on but leave before the placenta is delivered. It would be healthier to talk more instead of just assuming he should be there.
