What to look for when buying a buggy
Things to consider
- Wheels: Chunky tyres are better for off-road use. Small and medium swivel wheels help with manoeuvrability but leave the buggy difficult to control. Lockable swivel wheels are best for bumpy ground.
- Handle height: Needs to be at a comfortable height for whoever pushes the buggy. Some handles are height-adjustable.
- Brakes: Check that you find the brakes easy to apply and release.
- Harness: All new models come with a five-point safety harness. Make sure the clasp is easy for you to undo but difficult for a toddler.
Choosing a double or twin buggy
There are two styles of double/twin buggies:
Tandem: One seat is in front of the other. They can be heavy, but can fit through most doorways
Side-by-side: More compact when folded, but it might not fit through your front door.
Ask yourself:
- Is it functional?
- Does it manoeuvre easily in a busy street?
- Is it sturdy and compact?
- Will it fit in my vehicle?
- Is it comfortable for baby and mum?
- Is it lightweight with a growing baby inside?
