Beauty tips in pregnancy

How to beat blemishes
It's a common mistake to opt for thicker foundation to cover up blemishes that can break out when you're pregnant, but this can end up looking rather mask-like.
The more modern approach is to apply a thin layer of foundation all over your face and then target specific areas with a good-quality concealer or thicker formulation foundation. It's easy to apply, just smooth it on with a brush and then blend gently with your fingertips. Try a concealer brush. Clinique do good ones for around £11 (www.clinique.co.uk).
Dealing with dry hair
Heated hair appliances can be drying at any time, but this is especially true when there are other causes, like pregnancy.
For protection, apply a heat-styling spray, which coats the hair in a protective layer, before you start styling. This will make it less sensitive to the ravages of your hair appliance. I love Tigi Catwalk Fashionista Spritz & Shine, £10 for 200ml (www.lookfantastic.com).
Is massage safe?
I'd say steer clear of massages for the first three months of pregnancy, but at more advanced stages you're okay. In fact, this is probably the time when mums-to-be could do with a relaxing rub. Find a qualified aromatherapist, who will mix up a blend of essential oils that's right and safe for you.
When you book the appointment, tell her you're pregnant, so that she can adapt the treatment to suit you. This may mean lying on your side or having your front massaged, then sitting up to have your back soothed. To find a Tisserand-trained aromatherapist, call 01273 325666.
