Which type?
There are three types to choose from:
1. Microwave: Used in the microwave, it's steam-based so there's no need for sterilising tablets and bottles don't need rinsing. Make sure you check the steriliser will fit in your microwave.
2. Electric: This design plugs directly into the mains and uses steam to sterilise bottles.
3. Cold water: Used with sterilising tablets, this has a longer cycle than electric or microwave versions, and you need to thoroughly rinse bottles afterwards in boiled water.
Top tips for sterilising
- Wash bottles and accessories in warm, soapy water, using a bottle and teat brush.
- Make sure you rinse them before loading into the steriliser.
- Use teat tongs to lift teats and accessories out of the steriliser and for assembling the various parts of bottles.
- If you can't remember when you last changed your cold water sterilising solution, don't guess; if in doubt, change it.
- Be careful when opening a steam steriliser or when taking a steriliser out of the microwave. Observe the cooling-down period, as hot steam may be released.
- Always use the recommended amount of water when sterilising bottles in a microwave or electric steriliser.
- Rinse chemical solutions from cold water sterilisers with boiled water before making up your baby's feed.
