Buying a changing station

Average rating: 3 out of 5 star rating

Why buy a changing station?

Designed to raise your baby up to waist height, changing stations will save your back during the early weeks of your little one's life, when you'll be spending quite a bit of time changing nappies. They also have room from storage.

Things to consider

  • How much space do you have in the room where you want to put it?
  • Would you prefer to invest in a dresser that can be used as a piece of furniture later?
  • Where do you plan to change your baby's nappy? You might not find it very convenient to go upstairs time and again.
  • Do you want to move the changing station around from room to room? If so, it needs to be light and, preferably, have casters too.

Brandwatch

Find it hard to choose? Would you prefer a brand that prides itself on style rather than flexibility? Or do you just want cheap and cheerful? Here's the lowdown on a couple:
Mamas & Papas: An Italian family-owned business, it produces around 2,500 products for expectant and new mums. It's known for quality, comfort and style and its products are sold in retail stores all over the UK.
Blooming Marvellous: This is one of the UK's leading maternity wear and baby specialists. The Mini Marvellous range sells bedroom accessories, toys and games for 2-8 year olds. You can buy in its shops or via mail order.

Mum's top tip

I wasn't planning to buy a changing station but then I decided that it might be a good idea. And it was! Not only did it save my poor back from all that bending over, but having all the changing bits to hand was great.
Amy Hough, mum to Isobel, 18 months.
