How to avoid toddler tantrums
Lots of toddlers throw tantrums when it's time to leave somewhere and go home but a bit of preparation may help avoid this.
Say you'll tell her five to 10 minutes before it's time to go, so she can finish playing.
Make sure you're ready before you ask her to leave. It can be confusing if she has to wait 10 minutes while you gather everything up to go. Be clear, confident and upbeat and say, 'It's home time, let's go!'
Distract her if trouble starts. Have a snack or drink ready for when you're on your journey home. Reward her good behaviour with lots of praise, such as a sticker or a story tape in the car.
