Persuading your child to stop sucking their thumb
If your child is still sucking their thumb at an age when you no longer think it's acceptable, there are a few things you could do. Get some information about thumb sucking from the dentist, or maybe get the dentist to talk to your child about the possible damage it's doing to their teeth alignment. But don't panic.
Some kids still suck their thumbs at an older age because they are 'zoning out' and trying to relax. It's a safety mechanism and if you take this away, they may do something worse.
