'My kids think it's funny to be rude'

'My kids think it's funny to be rude'

I've got three kids, aged between nine and 14, and recently the older two have started being really rude to me. It's not so much swearing but talking back and acting like whatever I say isn't important.

It really gets me down and I'm trying my best to stop it. A friend suggested it could be the TV they're watching and I do think that has an effect. I try to stop them watching soaps but it's really hard because they're re-run at all times during the day. I think TV shows like Little Britain have an effect too because a lot of the catchphrases are rude and kids think it's funny to copy them. I'm not going to buy any more DVDs like that until mine are older.

I asked the kids how they'd like it if I spoke to them in the same way and that seemed to get through a bit.

My husband works away a lot but when he's home, he backs me up and won't let the kids be rude. I'm hoping that by being really clear what's acceptable and what's not, they'll start being more polite.

Hi there I UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE TALIKING ABOUT, I MY SELF EXPERIANCE THAT SOMETIMES. I CAME FROM ANOTHER COUNTRY AND OUR CHILDREN WERE NEVER RUDE, BUT SINCE WE CAME TO THIS COUNRY THEY THINK IT'S OK TO BE RUDE JUST BECAUSE OF WHAT IS CALLED CHILDREN'S RIGHT WITH NO RESPONSIBILITY. I THINK PARENT SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO PANISH THEIR CHILDREN IN A APROPRIATE MANNER.

I am a single mum and I have eight children ranging from seven years to twenty four years. My fifteen year old son and twelve year old daughter both exhibit this rude behaviour it really upsets me but I try to keep in focus that it is only temporary and that they will eventually either grow out of it or leave home. I myself think that this rudeness is a result of too much knowledge and not enough understanding. They know all about their rights but very little about the responsibility that goes with those rights. My son refuses to go to school at times but I am the one who is made accountable and he knows that. He also knows that I can't physically force him onto the school bus and that corpral punishment is frowned upon. Children and teenagers are protected from the consequences of their actions or labeled . I get tired of teachers and other professionals making excuses for poor behaviour and rudeness. I came from a broken home and had problems growing up who dosen,t but I have never spoken to my parents the way my children speak to me.
