Help! The kids are off school
Keeping your children happy during school holidays is extremely easy - providing you have the finances of a lottery winner and the patience of a saint. For the rest of us, it may be slightly more difficult. Here's how to cope
Get organised
All holidays are a nightmare for working parents. If relatives and friends can't help, you will have to pay someone. Get this sorted early. The best holiday playschemes and childminders are often booked up weeks in advance. Go to DirectGov to find council-run playschemes in your area.
Also check if you have a Sure Start scheme in your area. These offer subsidised childcare, much cheaper than private schemes, and the quality of care is usually excellent. For holiday camps, start with Baha but be warned; they can be expensive. It's not unusual to pay around £36 per day, per child.
