How to help your stressed teen
As we get older we learn to cope with stress (most of the time!), but most teenagers don't know how to handle it.
Here are a few things you can say to help your teen if they're worried about something.
- Remember, everyone gets stressed. There's nothing wrong with you.
- Facing whatever it is that's upsetting you and doing your best will make you feel much better than just running away. And if you do this, things will be easier next time.
- Self-help techniques like deep breathing might help get you through a tough moment..
- Make a list of the good things about yourself that will help you deal with the problem. Like: "I'm good at sticking up for myself without losing my temper." This will help you feel stronger and ready to face your fears.
- Whatever happens, your family loves and admires you, and respects you for having a go.
