Books for teens: get your teenage son to read
Average rating: 1 out of 5 star rating

Here's a list of some of the top books for boys in this age group:

Fantasy/Adventure books

If your child has a big imagination then try him on some of these books for teens...

The Harry Potter Books, By J.K. Rowling
A teenager might find the earliest books in the series a little simple, but you only have to look at how popular the books have been with adults to know that they definitely have a wide appeal across age groups.

His Dark Materials trilogy, by Phillip Pullman
The books are set across three worlds and follow two children, Lyra and Will on a great adventure on which they meet armoured bears, witches and cliff ghasts. The books deal with some quite adult themes which would be lost on younger readers.

The Gormenghast Trilogy, by Mervyn Peake
Another trilogy of books which are perfect for boys with a large imagination. The stories follow Titus, heir to the 77th Earl of Groan, and his adventures in the old and eerie castle of Gormenghast.

Eragon, by Christopher Paolini
With the discovery of a special stone in the woods, Eragon thinks his luck is in - little does he know the stone will bring a dragon hatchling which will take him on adventures and dangerous journeys all across the land.

Coming of age books

Some great stories dealing with teen issues...

Slam, by Nick Hornby
Sam is 16 and has little to think about in life (apart from skateboarding) until he meets Alicia and is suddenly facing fatherhood. This books definitely one to put them off teenage sex but is perhaps not suitable for younger teens.

Martyn Pig, by Kevin Brooks
Martyn Pig lives with his unreliable alcoholic father until one day an argument goes too far and Martyn does something he doesn't mean. A good read with a twist at the end.

The Diary of Adrian Mole aged 13 3/4, by Sue Townsend
Adrian Mole is 13 3/4 and documents every thought that goes through his teenage brain in his diary - a really funny book which teenagers of around the same age will be able to really relate to.

Crime/Thriller books
Great for any boy that loves trying to solve a mystery...

The Sleepwalker (CHERUB), by Robert Muchamore
An airline explodes over the ocean in a suspected terrorist attack. Who will solve the case but the specially trained child spies of CHERUB?

Snakehead, by Anthony Horowitz
Alex is a secret agent working in the Australian outback on a mission that will test all his skills of bravery and cunning to the max.
