As we said, it takes the average fertile couple 5-6 months to get pregnant so don't panic if it doesn't happen straight away.

You usually need to have been trying for a year before your GP will talk about fertility tests and other options with you, so find out what you can do to help in the meantime and understand why you haven't conceived yet.

- Why can't I get pregnant?
- Your story: 'I thought we'd conceive straightaway'
- Why fertility drugs might not work
- Having problems conceiving?
- What medicines to avoid when trying to conceive
- Boost your chances of getting pregnant
- Infertility a basic understanding
- Your story: 'I'm pregnant with twins thanks to IVF'
- How fertile am I? Take our quiz to test your fertility
- What are ovary transplants?

- Or, get back to your path to conception
