5. Avoid changing nappies at night
Obviously, if your baby has created a major smell or the nappy is totally soaked, then by all means pop a new one on, but unnecessary changing will only wake your baby up and make it more difficult to get them back to sleep again.
If you're worried about nappy rash, then slather a thicker layer of cream on their bum when you put them down to sleep.
6. Feed your baby more during the day
If you normally feed your baby every 3 hours, then shorten the gap in the afternoon and early evening. The idea is to fill up your baby so that they feel satisfied for longer during the night.
This should give you a good 4-5 hour stretch of sleep early on, if you're lucky.
7. Get to know your baby
You may not notice at first, but all babies show their own little signs when they're feeling sleepy. Your little one can go from being highly alert to falling asleep in minutes, so it's important you get to know the signs of tiredness.
In some babies it's something as simple as a certain type of cry, while others might start kicking furiously - all babies, as you'll quickly discover, are different.
