You are now 6 weeks pregnant or in your 7th week if that's how you're counting it

How is my baby growing?

Your baby is now about 6mm long and weighs around 1g.

Facial features are beginning to form: there are dark spots where the eyes are, openings for the nostrils and pits where the ears will develop. The heart is now beating at about 150 beats per minute.

How are you feeling?

At this stage it's normal to feel anxious about your pregnancy. You're unlikely to have your first scan for another 6 weeks, so it's only natural to worry that something is wrong, particularly if you don't have any pregnancy symptoms.

Do bear in mind that although miscarriage isn't uncommon - about 15% of pregnancies end in miscarriage - it's much more likely that everything will go smoothly.

Top tips

Noticing small spots of blood in your knickers or on toilet paper - spotting - is very common in early pregnancy and is usually nothing to worry about.

The most obvious signs of miscarriage are period-like pain and heavy bleeding, which may include clots. If this happens to you, contact your doctor, midwife or local hospital. You might not be admitted to hospital unless the bleeding is heavy, although you may be offered a scan.
