You may even develop a dark line running up the middle of your bump called a linea nigra. All these skin changes will fade within three months of giving birth.

You are now 17 weeks pregnant or in your 18th week if that's how you're counting it

How is my baby growing?

Your baby is now 18 cm long, weighs around 6 1/2oz.

The umbilical cord is lengthening and thickening to keep up with its growing needs. She can suck, swallow and blink, her ears are beginning to stand out and her unique finger and toe prints are developing.

How are you feeling?

You've gained around 5-10lbs and your breasts have already started making colostrum, the first milk your baby feeds on.

Your body is also producing more melanin which makes your nipples go darker and brownish patches can appear on your face.

Top tips

Fancy a holiday abroad? Go now. After 28 weeks most airlines will ask you for a doctors letter before travelling. After 34 weeks many will refuse to let you fly.

If you're going somewhere hot, use plenty of sunblock as your skin is more sensitive to sunburn and rashes.

Be careful what you eat too - avoid salads, ice cubes, alcohol and buffet meals in case you get food poisoning. For more information, read our what not to eat when pregnant guide.
