Anna's pregnancy diary
goodtoknow's Food and Diets Editor Anna is pregnant, so we've asked her to keep a diary of her pregnancy, telling you all the good bits and bad bits and asking for your help and comments.

This week, Anna starts to get cravings and is suffering from headaches.

I am ashamed to admit that this morning, for breakfast, I ate a bacon buttie and a Wispa. My usual breakfast would be two rounds of wholemeal toast with Marmite and a banana, but that just wouldn't cut it this morning. I went up to our office canteen, spied the bacon and just couldn't walk away...

I'd imagined that when I got pregnant I would eat really healthily just to make sure my baby got everything it needed. Instead, I want to eat everything bad for me: burgers, pizzas, lots of cheese... Green things have become enemy number one and I retch at the idea of them.

My husband is an amazing cook but we've realised that I can never decide what I want to eat until the very minute before I eat it, so anything put in front of me I usually can't bear. Even the smell of cooking is upsetting me. He made a slow-cook stew the other Sunday and I had to go and sit in the car. So every day, on my way home from work, I have to go into the supermarket and buy my own dinner.

I count myself lucky that I haven't been sick at all, just had a slight, underlying feeling of nausea, but my main problem has been headaches. They've been the devil's work. I suffer from migraines anyway, mainly caused by hormones, so now I'm pregnant my body has been flooded with new hormones and my head has gone wrong as a result. I wake up with a headache, which gets worse through the day and then by the time I leave work I'm ready to curl up in a dark room and go to bed just to escape it.

My GP has reassured me that it's fine to take paracetamol, so I try it, but it just doesn't even touch the sides. The pounding is relentless and it makes me feel sick too, so I've spent quite a few weekends and evenings lying on the sofa, or just in bed. Just a few more weeks though and I've been promised that the magic of the second trimester, where you bloom and feel full of energy, is just around the corner.
