Did you know that if you're pregnant you're entitled to £190?

The Health in Pregnancy Grant gives £190 to any pregnant woman who is a resident of the UK once they reach the 25th week of pregnancy.

The grant is intended to provide flexible help for all mums - that's why it's not means tested and you can spend it on whatever you like.

How do I get the Health in Pregnancy Grant?

You need to claim the money via your midwife or doctor. You can claim once you are 25 weeks pregnant - you'll visit your midwife around week 26-28 for an ante-natal check-up and you can get the form from her then. You just fill it in and send it in a free-post envelope within 31 days and the money will be paid into your bank account.

You do need to claim before you have your baby! If your midwife doesn't have the form, you can call the helpline on 0845 366 7885.

Who's eligible?

The grant is subject to your immigration status - so you might not get it if you have just moved to the UK or are in the process of moving. But other than that it's available to any pregnant woman in the UK who is 25 weeks pregnant. It doesn't matter how much you earn.

What should I spend it on?

You can spend it on anything you like - it's not monitored in any way. Your doctor or midwife will give you some advice on healthy eating, exercise and coping with pregnancy - so you might want to spend it on something they suggest.

You could use it to buy a new pram or other things you need for the baby, you could use it to buy fruit and vegetables and make sure you're getting enough vitamins, it's entirely up to you.
