Fans applaud Olivia Wilde for sharing breastfeeding photo on Instagram

'One bad ass mama!'

Fans have showered actress Olivia Wilde with praise after she shared a photo of herself breastfeeding to her Instagram account.

Olivia, 32, welcomed her daughter Daisy Josephine in the middle of October, announcing her birth with an adorable snap reading: 'There goes the neighborhood.Daisy Josephine Sudeikis. Born, like a boss, on #internationaldayofthegirl. ❤️'

Since then, she's posted plenty of updates on little Daisy's adventures - but her latest update has received even more likes than usual.

Taking a selfie of herself with no make-up on with her t-shirt rolled up and her daughter breastfeeding by her side, Olivia captioned the image: 'My drinking buddy. #neverunderestimatethepowerofawoman'.

Fans were quick to applaud Olivia for normalising breastfeeding, with one writing: 'Fabulous picture, clever caption! Enjoy these days, they're priceless! God bless you and your precious little family.🙏🏼😇💕' and a second adding: 'You're absolutely amazing in so many ways. I want to thank you for standing up for breastfeeding. It's truly a miracle and true bonding moment between mother and baby. Thank you for just being you!'

'I love that when I scrolled through my insta feed I saw this and thought nothing of it except "what a beautiful photo",' another agreed. 'Thankfully I see it more and more often. Then I noticed it was you and thought I'd stop and say thank you. It's wonderful seeing someone in the eyes of the public helping to #normalizebreastfeeding'.

This isn't the first time that Olivia has shared a picture of this nature with the public.

In 2015, she appeared in a photoshoot for Glamour magazine whilst breastfeeding her son Otis, now 2. At the time, the spread sparked backlash, with some claiming that Olivia was making 'motherhood look effortless and easy'.

However, the actress was quick to hit back, telling The Huffington Post: 'They were making a portrait of me for Glamour magazine, and I am a working mother. Shooting a cover shoot for a magazine is work, and during that day my son had to eat, and so I had to feed him.'

'I thought, if you're taking a portrait of me, this is part of me.'

'I certainly didn't expect people to be upset at the obscenity of public breastfeeding. I was shocked that there were still people who find it inappropriate because they think it's a sexual thing. I think that says a lot about them.'
