'It makes you forget who you are' Stacey Solomon opens up about abusive past relationship

The TV star spoke candidly about how the relationship effected her confidence

Stacey Solomon has opened up about an abusive past relationship and admitted it's changed her for life, saying, 'I'll always be a weird version of myself.'

The X Factor star revealed her painful past when she appeared on Loose Women alongside panellists Katie Price and Ruth Langsford on Monday afternoon.

The mum-of-two has been happily dating actor Joe Swash since 2015, but revealed she was once in an 'abusive relationship'.

Stacey went on to explain how the difficult experience shaped her as a person, saying, 'it makes you forget who you are... I'll always be a weird version of myself.'

The TV personality, who is known for her positive attitude and infectious laugh, continued to open up about how an ex-boyfriend broke down her confidence, admitting she begrudges him for 'taking that away'.

'I used to be less worried about everything. Less worried about what people thought about me... I was OK, quite confident from my experience - you could say I was like a teenager.

'I felt like a teen right through my adult years. Nothing mattered.

'You do begrudge that person for taking that away from you... that person can say over and over again and it embeds in you.'

Becoming emotional, Stacey revealed that the previous partner had manipulated her to the extent that she didn't realise it was abuse.

'These people manipulate you in a way that becomes normality. When people are happy to wish you dead or tell you your career is nothing or you are nothing.'

Fighting back tears, the 27-year-old mum continued, 'It might be lots of small things. You don't even realise it's happening to yourself until you realise.'

Finally, Stacey reflected on how to move past the damage that has been done to her self-esteem, asking fellow panellists, 'When someone has changed the way you approach life and how you deal with people, how do you ever get beyond it?'

The Loose Women panel looked visibly moved by Stacey's honesty, prompting Katie Price to suggest she would benefit from seeking professional help, saying, 'It might help you if you and see someone professional. Talking to family and stuff they've always got an opinion.'
