'Everything that could possibly go wrong went wrong' Paloma Faith opens up about her traumatic labour

'I wasn't very well for a long time afterwards'

Paloma Faith has opened up about the traumatic labour she went through with her first child, whom she welcomed back in December 2016.

The singer and former The Voice judge spoke about the experience during an appearance on The Sun's Bizarre podcast to promote her new single Crybaby, telling host Dan Wootton that 'everything that could possibly go wrong went wrong.'

Paloma, 36, detailed how she had intended to have an 'all natural' birth, but things didn't go to plan.

'I had 20 hours of labour, and a premature one, and then I wasn't dilating. The baby was in jeopardy and so I had to have an emergency C-section,' she explained.

'I did nine hours of labour without pain relief then just lost the plot completely. Because I'd been in labour for a long time I had something called PROM which is a premature rupture of waters. Then I just had so much other stuff go wrong afterwards because I also had an infection of the womb and really bad mastitis.'

The birth was so difficult that the star said that she 'wasn't very well for a long time afterwards', adding that she had struggled to walk properly for the first two months.

'The only way I can explain it is that I went to the gates of hell and I brought back an angel because it is just so incredible,' she said. 'I wouldn't change a minute of it for the world because I just think I have made the best person ever.'

Paloma and her partner, French artist Leyman Lahcine, are notoriously private about their personal life, and have not yet revealed whether their baby is a boy or a girl, or shared the baby name that they've chosen for their bundle of joy.

At the time of her pregnancy announcement, she wrote in a candid Instagram post: 'I hope that you will respect my new family with our privacy in a time which should be calm and without anxiety. I really do not want this child to be in the public eye as it won't have chosen to and I hope everyone can understand that'.
