'I was surprised it worked' Mum reveals how she used her vibrator to treat her mastitis

'It was the least painful of everything I had tried before'

A mum has shared the unusual hack that finally cured her mastitis after having it four times before, and it might not be what you're expecting.

As many mums will know, mastitis can be a very painful condition, and finding a way to relieve it can be tricky.

It happens when the breast ducts become blocked and the milk is forced into the surrounding breast tissue, which then becomes swollen and inflamed.

But a mum from Queensland in Australia might have discovered the best way to treat it, after finding out about a very surprising hack in a mum's group.

Talking to Kidspot, Danielle said she read that vibrators can be an effective way to unblock milk ducts while breastfeeding, and decided to give it a go.

'I've had mastitis four times with my nine-month-old son. I had tried everything - heat packs, rubbing it, pumping, hot showers; everything.

'It didn't hurt to use the vibrator - it was the least painful of everything I had tried before', she explained.

The trick that promises to cure mastitis involves resting a vibrator on the breast for 10 minutes as you pump the milk.

After using the vibrator to unblock her milk ducts, the mum says she hasn't suffered from mastitis again.

'I am weaning my son at the moment and had blocked ducts for a day before using the vibrator for 10 minutes. I was worried I would get mastitis again but I haven’t after that and have used the vibrator again since', she said.

Danielle also revealed she wasn't expecting the hack to work, but now wishes she had known about it sooner.

'I was surprised it worked. Some people have been surprised when I’ve told them but some other are not at all', she said.

'I first got it at 17 weeks pregnant. She was a premmie and I had mastitis a lot – so it was very difficult because it gives you aching muscles and joints, headaches temperatures and flu symptoms.'
