Ferne McCann on why she doesn't like the term 'single mum'

The father of her baby is currently facing trial over alleged criminal actions

Former The Only Way Is Essex star and part-time This Morning presenter Ferne McCann has revealed why she doesn't want to be labelled a 'single mum' after the arrival of her first child.

Despite the fact that the father of her child, Arthur Collins, is currently facing the prospect of going to jail, the mum-to-be won't be facing the birth of her first child alone.

Speaking exclusively to OK! Magazine, the 27-year-old confirmed that while her ex-boyfriend is in court over an alleged acid attack in London earlier this year, she is focused on 'not dwelling' on his current situation, or his absence when their child is born next month.

Instead, Ferne will have the full support of her mum when she gives birth, who has been with her for every step of her pregnancy so far, as well as her sister and her friends.

'I don't think about that now because my mum is my birthing partner. I don't dwell on how different it could have been,' Ferne told the magazine.

'I have done this whole pregnancy on my own, but at the same time I'm so not alone – I've got such a great support network with my mum, sister and friends. I've not felt alone or been alone once during this pregnancy.'

Explaining why she doesn't want to be labelled as a 'single mum', Ferne added that she's not letting her circumstances define her or her baby's future.

'I don't like the term single mum and I don't want to be addressed as that because I don't think you should be labelled. To me, I'm going to be a mum like anyone else, but just in a different situation. It shouldn't define you.'

The TV star went on to say that she's trying to remain positive, and despite the circumstances and the current situation her ex-boyfriend is in, she is 'excited' and looking forward to being a mum.

The star has been documenting the build up to the birth of her baby on her Instagram account. Sharing her final weeks as a mum-to-be, Ferne has been snapped getting a car seat for her baby and glamming up for photoshoots between gym sessions.

The gender of Ferne's baby still remains a secret, with the mum-to-be revealing that even she doesn't know the sex of her child yet, and is keeping it a surprise until the birth, captioning a snap taken whilst on holiday last month, 'Boy or girl? What do you think...'
