The Queen and Prince William have reportedly 'icy' disagreement over Kate Middleton's royal workload

Prince William’s grandmother allegedly stated that she ‘expects Kate to step up’.

Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton have reportedly caused tension in the Palace after Prince William raised the subject of Kate's royal duties with the Queen.

The Queen and her 35-year-old grandson have reportedly had a heated conversation, after William requested his pregnant wife take a step back from royal duties, permanently.

A source is said to have told Life & Style magazine that the 91-year-old monarch was 'livid that the future Queen of England would want to lessen her duties'.

According to the publication, the source said William told The Queen that 'Kate wants her public appearances kept to a minimum and he's 100% behind her', before adding that 'the conversation was quite icy'.

Prince William and Kate are expecting their third child

The popular royal couple have apparently made this request as Kate is said to be happier in her role as a mother to their children.

And there's no denying that looking after four-year-old Prince George and two-year-old Princess Charlotte could be a full time job.

Especially as the Duchess is currently pregnant with their third child – which they revealed is due early next year – and has been suffering with severe hyperemesis gravidarum, forcing her to pull out of official events and miss Prince George's first day at school.

However, 35-year-old Kate hasn't shied away from her royal engagements in recent times.

Just last week, the popular royal made appearances at both the Coach Core Graduation Ceremony at West Ham and a surprise visit to Paddington Station where she was pictured dancing with Paddington Bear ahead of the film's release.

If these reports are true then other members of the royal family will need to really step up their time in the limelight, especially following the retirement of Prince Philip by the end of this year.
