'Out of order' Mum sparks debate after revealing husband accompanies toddler daughter into ladies loos

A mum has sparked a fierce debate after admitting her husband takes their four-year-old daughter into the ladies loos when out in public places.

Posting under the handle AdaHopper on popular parenting website Mumsnet, the woman explained how her husband insists on doing this even after she's told him 'women don't like that', arguing that he should take her into the men's toilets with him.

The post started with the mum asking for help to settle a disagreement she was having with her husband.

She wrote: 'MN [mumsnet] - help dh [dear husband] and I with a disagreement please.

'When dd(4)[dear daughter] needs the loo in a public place, he takes her to the ladies' loos. I told him that women don't like that and he should take her to the men's loo. Aibu [Am I Being Unreasonable] or is he?'

The comments quickly came flooding in, and whilst some Mumsnet users agreed, saying that 'adult men should never be in women's toilets', others could understand why he wouldn't want to take her into the men's toilets, especially with 'smelly urinals'.

Some suggested using the disabled toilet instead, which created more debate over whether that was right or wrong.

One poster drew on her own experience: 'I still have memories of being taken into men's loos as a child shudders. They are horrible. But mostly the memories are sound and smell as DF has his hands over my eyes for the majority of the time,' she said.

Another proposed that 'family toilets' need to be introduced: 'It wouldn't bother me and it's probably much nicer for her than seeing/smelling men weeing at the urinals. I do think we should have family toilets or something for these situations.'

'Your DH[darling husband] is bang out of order. Adult men should never be in the women toilets. If I saw him I'd report him to whichever establishment I was in,' exclaimed another poster, but this user disagreed: 'I've seen men doing this, doesn't bother me at all, I can understand them not wanting to take their daughters in the men's when there's people using the urinal.'

Some users were blasted when they suggested the husband could take his daughter to a disabled toilet: 'Don't use the f***ing disabled loos just because because your prissy over which gender parent is with a child,' blasted one user.

One dad also waded into the discussion, saying: 'My dd refuses to go in with me to the gents and insists on going to the ladies. It's actually a complete nightmare. You're not really making it any better.'
