Andy Murray rarely talks about his family and private life, but has recently opened up about his desire for his daughter Sophia to watch him play tennis.
Champion tennis player Andy Murray has made a rare reference to his wife Kim and his daughter Sophia in an interview where he credits his eldest child as being one of his main motivations for getting fit to play again.
Speaking from Australia, where he is currently undergoing surgery for a hip problem which forced him to pull out of the Brisbane International competition, Andy Murray explained that as well as a desire to ‘get back competing’ because he’s ‘not finished playing tennis yet’, the sports star is also keen to continue playing tennis until his eldest daughter, Sophia, is old enough to watch him play.
‘I had spoken to my wife a little bit about it,’ Andy said, referring to Kim Sears whom he married in Dunblane in 2015. ‘One of the things that I would like to do is play until my eldest daughter is able to watch me and have a small understanding of what it is I’ve done for my living.’
Going on to explain further, Andy insinuated that one of the reasons he has struggled through the physical pain and his motivation for sticking out the rehab needed to get match-fit once again was so his daughter Sophia, who will soon turn two, can join her father and mother on tour abroad.
‘That would be cool if she can come along and watch me hit some balls or practice’ Andy said. ‘I like seeing a lot of the other kids when they are on the tour with their parents. Now I’ve had surgery, that’s something I’m looking forward to in the future.’
Andy Murray is now a father-of-two after his wife Kim gave birth to the couple’s second child, another baby girl, last year in November. It is not yet known what the couple decided to name their second daughter, as neither Andy or Kim have spoken about her publicly.
