‘Don’t listen to jealous haters’ Robin Thicke’s girlfriend April Love Geary divides opinion with breastfeeding picture

April Love Geary has come under fire for her latest Instagram picture, which shows her breastfeeding her baby daughter Mia.

April and her boyfriend, singer Robin Thicke, welcomed their daughter to the world in February.

The mum-of-one posts lots of adorable pictures of little Mia but her latest post has received a mixed response.

The picture shows April in bed, breastfeeding Mia who is dressed in a pink bodysuit covered in white hearts. April captioned the picture: ‘MOM pic by baby daddy @robinthicke’.

Many of April’s 139,000 followers wrote positive comments, praising the new mum for showing the realities of motherhood, and gushing about the picture of a mum and her daughter.

One person said: ‘Don’t listen to jealous haters. This is beautiful photo of you being a mother. You look incredible, and anyone who says anything otherwise is jealous of your beauty and your happiness.’

Another added: ‘Nice to see women who are not afraid to breastfeed in public eye & show it’s a normal thing (which it is)!!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 They did it before, why not do it now? If you’re afraid of seeing women’s breasts, than look the other way!’

However, Many others criticised April for being an ‘attention seeker’ and said she was too dressed up for the picture.

One person wrote: ‘Clearly an attention seeker…’, while another said: ‘This is not normalising breastfeeding, this is just extra. The same reason why you wouldn’t pull both breasts in a public area, is the same reason why you shouldn’t do it on a public social media site.’

The picture even started a debate on Twitter, as former Big Brother contestant Chanelle Hayes wrote: ‘I’m all for breastfeeding and having a choice how to feed your baby but WHY do people feel the need to post pictures of themselves doing it?! Especially the new pic of Robin Thicke’s gf! She’s got hair done, makeup on, both boobs out. So strange. What’s the need??’

Several people came to April’s defence with one person writing: ‘Why people feel the need to shame women who breastfeed in public is beyond me, you would see more flesh on a beach and I bet most of the women whinging have had their boobs out at some point … She is stunning and the baby is gorgeous leave her be! X’.

Another said: ‘So many jealous women here. 🙄 LOVE this picture.’

April responded directly to Chanelle’s post with another Instagram post showing her comment next to a picture of Chanelle posing topless.

April’s caption said: ‘Hey @chanellehayes, maybe the next time you want to criticize me for posting a picture of myself breastfeeding you should really take a look at the pictures you’ve had taken. Not that taking nudes are wrong! The naked body is a beautiful thing! But don’t be a hypocrite mama 😘’.

This proved equally as popular with April’s followers, with many praising the mum-of-one for standing up for herself.
