Dad starts baby name debate after revealing he’s considering changing daughter’s name for ‘VERY tricky’ reason

A dad has sparked a baby name debate after revealing that he’s considering changing his daughter’s name.

The concerned father took to a popular parenting forum to ask other parents for advice, after getting worried about his daughter’s name.

The little girl, who’s just over one-year-old, is named Alexa, but the dad is worried about her suffering bullying or teasing because of the popular Amazon gadget which also has the same name.

He wrote on Netmums: ‘I’m looking for people’s opinions and thoughts on what is a VERY tricky subject.

‘We had our first child and named her Alexa, this was just before Amazon decided to release their pointless gadget which it now seems is taking over the world.

‘Anyway, our little girl is now approaching 16 months old and is aware of her name and talks extremely fluently, and more times than not when you’re asked what her name is by someone new they make reference to having one at home, or say something similar which is annoying and frustrating.

‘Life growing up and at school can be hard enough, so we’re reluctantly considering changing her name to save her years of bullying / teasing etc.’

He then goes on to explain that they have considered changing her name to Alex, or even changing it to something completely different as they’re ‘not keen on Alex’.

‘Of course we will ultimately make this decision ourselves but I’m the kind of person that likes to gauge peoples opinion to help me make up my mind.

‘We love the name Alexa but are really worried she will hate it and need to think of her, not us’, he ended the post.

Most parents responded to the dad to say he shouldn’t change his daughter’s moniker and to reassure him that while Amazon’s gadget is popular now, it will probably be replaced by something else in a few years.

One said: ‘I’m sorry, but changing her name would be completely ridiculous. So you get a few comments, about the gadget, it’s not as if you named your child after it.’

A second wrote: ‘I wouldn’t change it now and soon the fad will be over and you would miss out on a name you love.’

Another also commented: ‘By the time she’s at school ‘Alexa’ will likely have been outdated by something else.’
